Asymmetrically draped silky dresses, unique jewelry and leather goodies. The web shop features a mainly black collection with hints of browns and whites, and so do the photographs of Oak NYC's editorials. Boys and girls dressed in black fabrics that seem to float around them with the streets of San Francisco or New York as their scenery. They make it all seem so effortless and easy. On my personal wish list is this Helmut Lang dress and Alexander Wang’s Darla pyramid clutch.

Summer Fun & Scrapbooking

I am sitting here today trying to work on deadlines and writing assignments. I must be honest with you,  when the weather is so lovely outside I really find it difficult to finish my tasks. So, I turned my thoughts to layouts that I had done in the past during the past. It has been a few years since I have done the above one but the reason why I scrapbook remains the same. To be creative, have fun, and share some wonderful stories & pictures. Scrapbooking and art can't be forced. You have to feel the creativeness, do the work, and enjoy it! With this I think of this quote by William Rose Benet (1886- 1950),

"I like to think how Shakespeare pruned his rose,
And ate his pippin in his orchard close."

Take time this summer to do some scrapbooking, but make sure to love what you are doing and enjoy your summer!

Spinedress Recipe,
easy as a pie!

Ingredients:
-H&M stretch dress (EUR 12.95)
-scissors
-needle thread

Preparation time: 15 min.

Fold the dress in half, but do this sideways.
Make sure the side seems touch each other so you know
exactly what the middle of your back will be.
Slice the dress in slices of approximately 5 mm thickness.
Unfold the dress and notice all the small 'ribbons'.
Now take the first top ribbon and pull the ribbon below through it,
do the same with the ribbon below and go on until the bottom.
Sew the last ribbon in place and... voila!

The truth about Jeffrey Cambell

Jeffrey Campbell... I am going to be dead honest. My Jeffrey Cambell shoes aren’t as great as so many reviews claim.

Am I the only one on earth who thinks his Acne rip offs are just unacceptable?! I mean, you can be inspired by another label but I think stealing a design shouldn’t be paid off with the kind of praising and credits that he gets. Specially if this ‘Alexa wedge’ turned out like a Frankenstein version of Acne’s Atacomba wedges. Let’s not start about the Ann Demeulemeester, Chloe, Alexander Wang, Ashis and even Givenchy they have tried to impersonate. Although I don’t appreciate the brand anymore thanks to these kinds of bad rip offs, Jeffrey’s square wedges did grab my attention. They looked like a brick tied to a shoe, so simple and interesting.

Today the package was delivered. I calmly sign the paperwork that the mailman needs from me and wish him a good day. It takes only seconds but it feels like hours. I feel anxious to shut the door, run inside, slice open the box with the first sharp object I can get my hands on. I see some keys lying on the kitchen table and start poking the box with them. Effects are minimal. I need something better, I go for the biggest kitchen knife we own and slice through the tape that is holding the box together like butter.

Ahhh Another wonderful, fancier box in sight. It says Jeffery Campbell. I open it. A plastic stench comes out. I can smell (and see!) the glue that is keeping the wedges together. Oh the horror! Plastic.. Synthetic.. An image of a huge chinese factory with underpayed employees producing cheap shoes goes through my mind. I go back to the website I ordered them from and find out that it did specifically says “with leather insole”. Are you kidding me Mr. Jeffrey Cambell?! Only the insole is leather? I wish I had saved my 150 Euro’s for Acne wedges I am having sleepless nights over.

My lesson is learned. Cheap always turns out to be expensive. These won’t last long.

Printed hoodies, tees and sneakers? Not this time at Daryl van Wouw! For spring 2011 Daryl presented sophisticated dresses in delicate fabrics. Both in very wearable short body hugging as long and flowy fits. Executed in a few not so basic colors like a dark faded turquoise, several shades of odd browns, and almost orange reds. After moving his company to China, Daryl van Wouw positively surprised us with his collection designed there. There was a noticeable change in this collection compared with previous ones, this time he worked a lot more with fabrics and layers and used a more elegant aesthetic. Although the hair and makeup strongly reminded of last spring’s Giles and Proenza Schouler with their pastel colored strokes of hair, it did do a beautiful job complimenting the collection.

Outside the show at Westerpark, in the grass, at sunset another surprise awaited. Wooden pellets were piled and wrapped in plastic foil and so were a dozen of models. Viewers received headphones to experience a ‘silent fashion show’. Huge light bulbs on sticks tied to the pellets lit to the beat of the music. The show started, models were unpacked from their foil package and Conny Groenewegen's designs were revealed. They started marching coordinately in between the pellets accompanied by the music and the lights. A magical display.

Alter Floral Baby Shoes

It is fun to alter just about anything, but I really have fun playing with articles of babies clothing because they are so tiny. The textures of material are quite easy to adhere whatever you feel like adding to your project. With these baby shoes I had fun using an assortment of flowers from Prima marketing Inc.

DSCN7581I started by sewing on metallic beads to the heal of the shoe.

DSCN7593

Next I used a glue gun to glue the ribbon around the edge of the shoe. At the ends of the ribbon I formed a loop to give the ribbon a pretty finish.

* Depending on what material you are using, you can use glue dots or a glue gun. DSCN7611

I then used thin gauged wire to wire  metal beads, jade beads, and flowers so the I could easily place and attach them to the shoes.DSCN7568  To fill in spots, I used smaller flowers and stuck them on with glues dots. I then added a tag and a little bit  of gauze for presentation.

These are so fun to make for a baby shower table center piece or  a present. So take a look around your house today and see what you can alter!
