SHOES | Platform Prada

Literally just sticking something delicate and refined as a leather brogue on top of a heavy looking almost shapeless foam platform is what I call a nice contrast. I might just invest in these for spring!

Paint a Snowman

wooden snowman

A super fun idea that I found several years ago to make, is this wooden snowman. I don't know about you, but I love snowmen. There is something about them that they just make me smile! This guy is so super easy to make. Your whole family can help to make a batch to give away as a winter treat to friends, family and neighbours.

Supplies:

~ 1 by 1 wood post

~ white, rose, black, & orange acrylic paint

~ buttons

~baby sock

~ heavy gauge wire

~1" by 3" piece of fabric

~ glue gun

~embellishments

~small wood dowel

Cut wood to 5" length and paint white.  Drill a nose hole and two small arm holes. Sand small dowel at one end to resemble a carrot and then paint orange. Paint on eyes and mouth. You can also lightly dab on the cheeks. When dry, glue on buttons and glue in nose. Cut two three" lengths of wire. Wrap around a pencil to get a nice curl in the wire. Then glue each wire into the arm holes. Take baby sock and cut off the foot section. Then take the fabric and tie at the half way point of the sock. This is the snowman's hat. Glue the hat onto the snowman. Add any embellishments that you like.

And it is over.
The dinners, brunches, family meetings and late nights on the couch watching home alone. This year went incredibly fast. I hope everyone had a lovely lovely Christmas, had time to spent with their friends and families and gave coveted gifts!

Adding a little bit of spring to your Christmas decorations.

Why not mix two beautiful seasons together -WINTER and SPRING when your are creating Christmas decorations this year. It is appealing to the eye to add light and airy cotton flowers to a pair of heavy mitts. {Opposites really do attract!} After taking a small 3 inch pair of wool mittens that where whip stitched together, I used glue dots to attach flowers, buttons, and a pearl spray, I also used a cute whimsical butterfly from JENNI BOWLIN to top it all off.  Now I have a cute little decoration to add to cookies plates that I hand out on Christmas Day!

BEAUTY | Products For Matte Dark Lips

Photobucket

Photobucket

My favorite products: Smith's minted rose lip balm, MAC lip pencils: Nightmoth and Vino, Hema black kohl pencil

I've been getting a lot of questions about which lipsticks and products I use. To begin with I'd like to recomment NOT using lipstick. I've tried so many brands from expensive Chanel lipsticks to cheap lipsticks from an emo-shop(in case you're questioning yourself right now about what they sell at EMO shops.. well mainly striped socks and occasionally also cheap asian cosmetics). But lipsticks just don't last all day and 'bleeding' becomes very visible with dark colors, specially if you have a pale skin.

So how to get matte(I hate shiny lips) dark lips that don't stain and last all day?Use a lip pencil or kohl pencil to draw and entirely color your lips. Before applying the lip pencil use a tiny tiny (you don't want them too shiny) bit of lip balm to moisturize your lips. The lip balm also makes the coloring with the pencil easyer and smoother.

My favorite products which I use almost every day are the lip pencils from MAC, colors Nightmoth and Vino. Regular Hema(cheap brand from the Netherlands)black kohl pencil and Smith's minted rose lip balm.

The Christmas Ornament Mystery…

october Afternoon ornaments

Had a little fun fun making some cute little ornaments with October Afternoon's cute Christmas scrapbooking paper. I used some star chip board shapes and then fancied it up with some awesome ribbon from Maya Road. I thought it would be cool to randomly 'surprise someone by decorating their cedar with these cute decorations. {smile} I sure hope that they liked stars! To make them water proof, I sprayed them with a couple coats of outside acrylic sealer.  They were easy to make and so fun to deliver! I thought that it would be a great way to spread a little 'love'.

Next giveaway is this week….. PLEASE…..send those comments & pictures in! Christmas can really be hard on some people sometimes….so let's share a smile, a homemade card, or even a kind word! Thank-you for everything that you do. The things I have read and heard are so cool!

YOU GUYS ROCK!

Another pair of leather trousers. I found them last week in a vintage boutique. They might be old but they are not any less modern than they were 15 years ago. Their shape instantly reminded me of the silhouettes at Jil Sander for next spring

INTERVIEW | Carine Quit

Photobucket

After being editor in chief for ten years, Carine Roitfeld resigned from her accomplished position at French Vogue yesterday.
She said she decided that a decade in a job that ultimately might have limited her creativity was enough.

In an interview earlier this year by The New York Times she talks about censure and the restriuctions at Vogue:

How do you feel about the magazine at 90?

In 90 years, we haven’t changed the mood of the magazine. It’s still very audacious. It’s still about beauty. It’s still about excess. It’s still very avant-garde. When we started to do the research, we discovered the same mood in the past, so we are very happy to feel that we are still looking like the iconic Vogue of Newton and Guy Bourdin. We try to be sophisticated, while a little on the edge all the time. But what I can see is that now, the censoring is bigger than it was 20, 30 or 40 years ago. I think we have less freedom. Today some pictures would not even be publishable. It’s not just about the nudity, but when you talk about things politically, the military, kids, it would all be politically incorrect and not publishable today.

How does that make you feel as an editor?

That we have to fight to keep this un-politically correct attitude of French Vogue, but it’s more and more difficult to be able do that. You cannot smoke, you cannot show arms, you cannot show little girls, because everyone now is very anxious not to have problems with the law. Everything we do now is like walking in high heels on the ice, but we keep trying to do it.

How do you remain personally engaged with fashion when everyone else can see it online?

It’s still exciting to me, because when I am going to a fashion show, I’m not just looking at the clothes. I’m looking at the mood, I’m listening to the music, so sometimes, I can be a bit disappointed in one, two or three shows, and then I see a great one and my energy goes up again. There were some big fashion moments last week in Italy, like when you go to Prada, and wonder what’s she going to do this time, or at Dolce & Gabbana, and you are almost ready to cry. Maybe I still like the clothes. I don’t see them just to wear them, I see them as a piece of art sometimes.

* My computer crashed last night. I'm ill and can hardly think because it feels like my head is completely filled with mocus. So no elaborate post about Damir Doma's women's collection. The picture speak for themselves.

Also I wanted to share an interview the lovely Slanelle from Slanellestyle did with me. Read it here!
