INTERIOR | DIY Book Storage

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
Books: Click to see how they looked before

glass container: iittala
lamp: gift from my mom
perfume: Maison Martin Margiela

I really like to keep my stuff in sight and not tuck everything away behind closet doors; like a thrifted fashion encyclopedia from 1986 and the favorite book from my childhood Matilda. Though a shelf crammed with piles of books can look pretty messy and is visually disturbing. So I figured that giving them a new white cover(just some thick paper folded around the original covers) would solve this and also protect my vintage books. I planned to write the titles on the book spines with a black marker but I really liked their new anonymous look, besides I know exactly which book is which. To keep your books standing up without any book stands just take an elastic, tie a knot in it and put it around your books.

Scrappy Canuck      September 20, 2012 9:36 AM

Susan - I like to doodle because it pushes me out of my comfort zone!!! I love working with beautiful papers and stamps, but doodling challenges me to add my own style and signature to the piece! I often worry that I am going to "ruin" the projects, but it really can be so satisfying to see "me" in each piece!

Could you please email me at susiebeestudios@gmail.com. Thank-you to everyone for you AWESOME comments! You are amazing!

Make sure to check out Canadian Scrapbooker and keep on DOODLING!!

hugs,

Susan

OUTFITS | Shine Sweatshirt

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

skirt: self made
top: got it here
trainers: Nike Free

Yaay for biking with your coat unzipped. Just like I had hoped, this plastic coated sweatshirt is wind-proof, it also happens to be perfectly shaped; boxy yet slim. It came in the mail two days ago and made me really greedy for more clothes. I felt that I urgently needed a stiff white skirt with a side slit to go with it. This morning when getting dressed none of my other skirts were good enough compared to that particular one I had in mind. Going to all the shops to look for this skirt was just going to take too much time and besides, what was I going to wear today? My impatience took over and within an hour I made one from some old faux leather I still had in the shed. That impatience also saved me from wasting money on stuff that (with a couple of stitches)I already had! pffew

LIFE | Boyfriend's New Tattoo

Photobucket

My boyfriend is one of those people who does not exist online, he doesn't even have a Facebook or twitter account. I am the contrary and have been begging him to appear on the blog. After he got this new tattoo last week there was no way in hell I was going to let him say no.

    necklace: gift fromAgata Bielen

I really love doing extensive photo shoots with objects. I might have snapped around 50 pictures from different angles of this necklace of bended metal that Agata Bielen, a talented young jewelry designer from Poland send me. I just love how the light reflects on the matte metal surface and a dark shadow falls inside the folds of it.

NOVELTY | LFW SS13 Charlie May

    Photobucket

The wine cellars of the Stafford hotel were packed with bloggers, online press and some buyers last Sunday in London Soho. Charlie May turned this old underground space with its rounded walls of white painted bricks into the setting of her very first runway show. All rows were completely full and along the sides of the entire cellar people were standing and even getting down on the floor to get a few good snapshots. I really liked this intimate event where we all got the chance to actually see the clothes from up close as opposed to the massive fashion shows where your sight gets blocked by the first rowers holding their i-pads in the air.
When the models finally stepped out of a narrow dark passage we saw that Charlie delivered exactly what has become signature to her brand; sharp shapes in soft flowing material, a killer biker jacket, tan leather details and golden zippers. YUM.

    DIY | Folded Foil Skirt

During a session of shopping at the hardware store I came across some rolls of silver and gold metallic insulating foil.
I imagined NASA using this material for space suits but saw more of a skirt opportunity for my non-austronaut self.

    01. Take a piece of foil long enough to almost go around your waist twice and glue it together (metallic against metallic) creating a tube.
    02. Put on the soon to be skirt and make sure the 'back seam' you just glued together is in the exact middle of your back. Now create two large pleats at the front making the skirt tighter.
    03. Fold the pleats over inwards and with a pen draw their outline. (Can be easily removed afterwards)
    04. Take off the skirt, fold it back using the drawn outlines as a guideline and glue some strong velcro on the inside of the folds.

Honestly, working with this material was a real pain in the ass. I failed at my first attempt to make a skirt out of it. This foil can't be stitched, the inside can't be glued, it is very stiff but at the same time very delicate, though I love the final outcome. I think I will remake this skirt in another stiff, but more manageable material like neoprene or leather.

    OUTFITS | London Fashion Week

    bomber: Acne
    leather top: DIY
shorts: cut off thrifted 1980s legging
    clutch: thrifted
    shoes: Prada

The atmosphere at London Fashion Week is the exact opposite of how the fashion industry is often portrayed; stressed, depressed and well dressed, didn't seem to apply, except for the well dressed part. Besides the fact that everyone at LFW is there for work, they are there for fun too. I also met a lot of Dutch bloggers and people from the Dutch press that I never have run into in Amsterdam. One of them was photographer Lisa Galesloot, who just moved to London. She was snapping away with her camera in front of the Topshop Unique show and took my picture, thank you Lisa!
